Delhi to Jaipur by Urbania Van

Delhi to Jaipur is the trip people most often try to do in a single day and most often should not. Agra works as a day trip because there is one monument that matters and it is close to the road. Jaipur has six or seven things worth seeing, spread across a city and a hillside, and a group that arrives at noon and leaves at four has effectively driven 550 km to look at a fort from the car park.

Delhi to Jaipur Distance and Route

Two realistic roads, and unlike the Agra run the choice genuinely depends on where in Delhi NCR you start.

From Gurgaon the run is shorter by roughly 25 km - see our Gurgaon page if that is your pickup point. Either way, budget five to six hours door to door rather than the four hours the map suggests; the stretch out of Delhi and the approach into Jaipur both take longer than the open highway in between.

A two-day return with local sightseeing typically comes to 620 to 680 km of running. That figure is what your quote is built on.

Why Two Days Beats One

A same-day Delhi-Jaipur-Delhi trip means eleven hours in the vehicle and about four hours in Jaipur. We will run it if you want it, and we will tell you first that it is poor value.

• Amber Fort alone deserves two to three hours. It is 11 km outside the city and the approach takes time.
• The City Palace, Jantar Mantar and Hawa Mahal cluster together in the old city and need half a day between them.
• Nahargarh at sunset is the best thing in Jaipur and is only available to people who stayed the night.
• The old city markets - Johari Bazaar, Bapu Bazaar - are the reason half the group came, and they do not work at speed.

One night converts a punishing day into a proper trip and adds relatively little to the vehicle cost, since the per-km running barely changes.

A Two-Day Jaipur Itinerary

Day 1, 6:00 AM - depart Delhi

Early enough to clear Gurgaon before the traffic builds. A breakfast stop around Behror, where the highway dhabas are genuinely good, puts you into Jaipur around 11:30 AM.

Day 1 afternoon - City Palace and Jantar Mantar

Check in, eat, then the old city cluster. City Palace and Jantar Mantar sit next to each other; Hawa Mahal is a short walk and is mostly a photograph rather than an interior visit.

Day 1, 5:30 PM - Nahargarh Fort

The sunset view over the whole city. The road up is narrow and winding, which is one of the places the Urbania's handling is noticeably better than a stiffer vehicle.

Day 2, 8:30 AM - Amber Fort

Go early. By 11:00 AM the crowds and the heat both arrive. Allow two to three hours including the climb or the jeep up. Jal Mahal is on the way back and takes ten minutes from the roadside.

Day 2, 12:30 PM - Jaigarh, or the markets

Jaigarh Fort sits above Amber and is quiet; alternatively, drop back into the old city for Johari and Bapu Bazaar. Most groups split here and the van does two runs - which is exactly what having your own vehicle is for.

Day 2, 4:00 PM - depart for Delhi

Home between 9:30 and 10:30 PM. If the group would rather not travel at night, leave by 2:30 PM instead and drop the second morning stop.

Delhi to Jaipur Urbania Rates

For a two-day trip the per-km plan is almost always the cheaper of the two, because the second day adds sightseeing kilometres rather than a fresh long-distance leg.

Per kilometre plan

On roughly 650 km of running this gives the vehicle cost, with driver allowance, tolls, Rajasthan state entry tax, parking and any night charge added at actuals.

Per day package

Which Urbania for This Route

Two days means overnight luggage as well as passengers, so the boot matters more here than on a day trip.

Family of 8 to 10

The 12 seater Urbania at Rs 35 per km, the standard booking for this route.

Group of 12 to 16

The 16 seater at Rs 38 or the 17 seater at Rs 40, with the lowest per-head cost in the fleet.

Where comfort is the priority

The 9 seater Maharaja Urbania at Rs 50 per km - fewer, wider seats, which tells on the Nahargarh and Amber approach roads.

Worthwhile Stops Along the Way

NH-48 is not a scenic road, but there are three or four places worth breaking the drive for, and having your own vehicle means you can actually stop at them rather than watching them pass.

• Behror - roughly the halfway point and the traditional breakfast stop. The highway dhabas here are genuinely good and busy enough that the food turns over quickly.
• Neemrana Fort - a short detour off the highway, about 110 km from Gurgaon. Worth an hour if you leave early, and a good lunch stop on the return leg.
• Sariska - a longer detour towards Alwar, but the obvious addition if the group wants a wildlife morning built into the trip.
• Chokhi Dhani - on the Jaipur outskirts rather than the highway. A staged village-culture evening that divides opinion, but children generally love it.

Tell the driver at the start of the day which of these you want. Adding a stop on the way out costs an hour; adding one on the way back costs nothing much, because the group is usually ready to break the drive anyway.

Practical Notes for Jaipur

• Best months. October to March. April to June regularly passes 40 degrees and Amber Fort has very little shade.
• Composite ticket. Jaipur sells a combined monument ticket valid across several sites over two days - worth it if you are seeing three or more.
• Amber Fort early. Before 10:00 AM if at all possible.
• Elephant rides. Widely offered at Amber; many visitors now decline them on welfare grounds. Jeeps cover the same climb.
• Parking. The old city is tight. The driver will drop and collect rather than park alongside - this is normal and is why having your own vehicle beats a taxi rank.
• State entry tax. Crossing into Rajasthan carries a tax, charged at actuals on the per-km plan.
